At the Brooklyn Hip-Hop Festival this weekend, Busta Rhymes brought out some surprise guests-Charlie Brown and Dinco D. The three initially gained fame in the early Nineties as Leaders Of The New School. LoNS split up after two albums, as Busta’s star power proved too big for a group dynamic. Charlie and Dinco both became estranged from Busta over the years, but apparently the three have made amends and performed together for the first time in sixteen years. No word if there’s going to be any music made beyond this one performance. Busta’s had a solo album scheduled for release since the beginning of the year–we don’t know when (or if) that’s gonna show up, either.

Even with the LoNS reunion, the highlight of Busta’s set was a raucous version of “Scenario,” featuring the original lineup of the Leaders plus Q-Tip and Phife Dawg of A Tribe Called Quest. I was super-stoked to see Tip and Phife on stage together…perhaps another Tribe reunion is in the works?
