Leaders of the New School Reunite: A Great Day For Hip-Hop in Brooklyn

Leaders of the New School Reunite: A Great Day For Hip-Hop in Brooklyn

At the Brooklyn Hip-Hop Festival this weekend, Busta Rhymes brought out some surprise guests-Charlie Brown and Dinco D. The three initially gained fame in the early Nineties as Leaders Of The New School. LoNS split up after two albums, as Busta’s star power proved too big for a group dynamic. Charlie and Dinco both became estranged from Busta over the years, but apparently the three have made amends and performed together for the first time in sixteen years. No word […]

Another Opinion On Beats, Rhymes & Life: The Travels of A Tribe Called Quest

Big Money Mike and I were going to collaborate on a review of the new Michael Rapaport documentary about A Tribe Called Quest. But in the back of my mind, I knew that Mike was going to have a lot to say and I thought he should post his thoughts alone ( which he did here ) and I could come in a few days later and give a few opinions on my own. This isn’t a full-fledged review, as I already did that […]

Pass the Popcorn: “Beats, Rhymes & Life: The Travels of A Tribe Called Quest”

If you’re a regular reader of this site, you’re aware of my extreme excitement regarding the debut of “Beats, Rhymes & Life”, the Michael Rapaport-directed documentary about the lives and careers of rap legends A Tribe Called Quest. You’re probably also aware of the controversy regarding the film. The group members-Q-Tip, Phife Dawg, Jarobi White and Ali Shaheed Muhammad, have not presented a united front on the film, and Q-Tip in particular has not been supportive, claiming that he’s cast […]

“Beats, Rhymes & Life” Official Trailer Hits the Airwaves

I’ve been talking about this Tribe Called Quest documentary for a hot minute, and with the film finally scheduled to hit theaters later this summer, anticipation on my end has reached a fever pitch. A new trailer for the film recently surfaced on Yahoo, and this looks like it’s going to be one of the all time hip-hop docs, nay, MUSIC docs of all time. I can not fucking wait. Michael Rapaport did his thing here. http://youtu.be/XJFOM1qRLe8 Opening dates for […]

Give Me “Beats, Rhymes & Life”!: Tribe Doc Gets Release Dates

If you, like me, have been salivating for a viewing of the controversial Michael Rapaport-directed Tribe Called Quest documentary “Beats, Rhymes & Life”, then you’re in luck, as a national rollout was just announced. The film premiered at the Sundance festival earlier this year, screened at the Tribeca Film Festival in NYC last night, and officially premieres in New York and Los Angeles on the 8th of July. Over the following month or so, it will hit most major cities […]

Smoothed Out Sunday: "Electric Relaxation"

Today is Easter Sunday. Today is also the first day of the 2010 baseball season (or as I like to call it, the year when the Yankees win their 28th World Series title). So I choose to celebrate this Sunday with…a song about sex? Why the hell not? For most people, you can sum up the love song in hip-hop with a few words. “Bitch”, “ho” and “suck my dick” would probably do the trick (no pun intended) for most. […]
