Gather ’round, as Will Ferrell whispers a punk song in Marc Forster’s terrific “Stranger Than Fiction”
Pet Shop Boys, Electric: Album Review
It’s not always easy to be objective about a new album release by one of your favorite artists. And I preface this by saying Pet Shop Boys have been one of my favorites, really only second to Prince, since their debut Please in 1986. Don’t let their lack of airplay in the States since the 90’s fool you, PSB have sold over 50 million records worldwide, are the UK’s most successful duo ever, and still consistently make noise in the […]

The Popblerd Halftime Show: Drew’s Best of 2013 So Far
Halfway through 2013, we’ve come to an interesting impasse: moreso than the last several years, the music of this year has been largely awesome. I don’t say this to suggest that I’m one of those curmudgeonly sorts that thinks new music blows; it’s just, we’ve been in a bit of a lull. Much of 2012 was boring on the album front, and 2011 was only marginally better. And yet, here we are at unlucky ’13, and I’ve already doled out […]
Justin Timberlake Has That Tunnel Vision For You (Along With Nudity)
Does Robin Thicke remind you of Justin Timberlake or is it the other way around? And damn it for Jon B. not being on the scene right now to further blur the lines. Ha! Timberlake’s new video for “Tunnel Vision” doesn’t really copy Thicke’s naked chick format for the video to “Blurred Lines”, which we wrote about months ago . But it does have some artsy female nudity intertwined with Justin lip synching his lyrics and dancing. Thus, just beware that the video below may not […]
Jamie Lidell and the Q-Kidz find “Big Love”
In my initial review of Jamie Lidell’s latest record, I mentioned “Big Love” by name as a standout. Highly danceable, funky, unapologetically lifts its main beat from “The Pleasure Principle,” the song is an absolute standout on an already solid record. It’s an obvious choice for a single, but Lidell’s videos are never obvious visual counterparts (though they’re generally entertaining). “Big Love” focuses on neighborhood kids (actually the Q-Kidz dance team) flocking to the local rec center, which eventually turns into a near-disco-experience. […]

Keeping up with the rate of quality new music is like trying to be in love with 100 women at once: it’ll be an overdose of bliss, but with each one needing an equal slice of your heart, some jadedness may occur.
