A couple of weeks ago Band of Horses released a teaser video for a “new album” to be released “in September” and produced by Hall of Famer Glyn Johns. Despite not knowing anything more than that, I put it at the top of my list of most anticipated releases for the rest of 2012. On Monday the band dropped a boatload of goodness on their fans by announcing the record’s title (Mirage Rock), release date (September 18) and releasing the first single and video, “Knock Knock”. It’s going to be a long two months of waiting
I got turned on to Band of Horses a couple of years ago by my friend Pete Icke (aka @IckMusic), and their blend of rootsy guitars and lush harmonies just knocked me out. “Knock Knock” (along with the song in the teaser video, “Dumpster World”) has a harder rocking sound that isn’t too surprising given Johns’ involvement. Ben Bridwell’s, vocals on “Knock Knock” sound great, and the intro to “Dumpster World” is straight out of the Crosby, Stills & Nash songbook. The album is available for pre-order on iTunes which gets you “Knock Knock” now and a bonus track, “Ego Nightmare”, when the record officially drops. You can check out the video below.
