I could sit and listen to Amel Larrieux sing all day. It’s hard to believe that it’s been well over a half decade since the sultry beauty graced us with her fourth solo album, Lovely Standards. After that jazz excursion, the one-time Groove Theory vocalist is back on “neo-soul” turf with “Afraid.”
Straight up and down-this. is. a. jam. Amel’s voice is always a treat, and the music is positively buoyant. In a just world, this song would be the soundtrack for summer.
No official word on a new album (yet) but this has to be a harbinger of good things to come from Miss Larrieux, yes?
