The former Gap Band lead singer has hung tough in the music industry for 35 years plus, battled through drug addiction and prostate cancer, influenced many of today’s vocalists,and still spins out hits with frightening regularity.
Uncle Charlie has an as-yet-untitled new album scheduled for release in early 2013, and the first single is called “My Love Is All I Have.” No, there isn’t anything particularly special about the song, but Charlie is singing it, which makes for reason enough to listen. In an age where organic-sounding R&B has been largely replaced by machinery, it’s nice to know that some folks are still relying strictly on their voice to make good music.
