Interpol’s Paul Banks has shed his Julian Plenti moniker and goes it alone on “The Base”, the first single from his forthcoming second solo album (Banks, due on October 23rd through Matador).
“The Base” is a beautiful mesh of soundscapes seamlessly interwoven into cohesiveness and a great introduction to Banks. It’s hard to be the singer of any band and not be compared to your day job when putting out a solo record. Here, Banks revels in it. His voice is unmistakable and the song is incredible by adding lush textures surrounded by a crushing backbeat creating a more uplifting overall feel than Interpol.
