Gotye is one of my favorite finds of the young year so far. While his album, Making Mirrors, is in the process of growing on me, the single “Someone That I Used To Know” is one of those songs that I will stick on repeat and play 5, 6 or 7 times in a row. Reminds me of back when Sting made good music.
Anyhow, you might not know that the female vocalist on Gotye’s song goes by the name of Kimbra. She’s Australian, and already a star in her homeland. Her vocal style gives me a little Feist, a little Norah, but I doubt either of those chanteuses would do a track as danceable as “Warrior,” which Kimbra recorded with DJ A-Trak (of Kanye West fame) and Mark Foster (??) The song’s video (and quite possibly the song too) was made to promote Converse shoes (and the mall staple Journey’s.) This would normally cause me to make the stank face, but the song is really good and the video is kinda neat too, aside from the obvious product placements.
