The Singles Bar: I Come To Shanghai offers “Eternal Life” for a price… (NSFW)
by Blake on Mar 5, 2012 • 12:00 pm No CommentsAthens-based rock duo I Come To Shanghai appears to be tapping into the zeitgeist of the internet, with their new KickStarter project gathering funds to implement the previously released “Eternal Life Vol. I” and the forthcoming “Eternal Life Vol. II” to be pressed to a vinyl LP, forming one cohesive and eternal musical experience. As previously discussed on Popblerd in both mediums of documentary filmmaking and old school PC gaming, KickStarter-esque projects seem to be all the rage as of late. Robert Ashley and Sam Frigard of I Come To Shanghai are requesting help from their fans to master, press, and ship out their music directly to those in want. This takes all the guess-work and risk, and essentially answers the age-old ambiguity of the “supply and demand” quandary. Much akin to preorder incentives, fans will see a variety of treats when “donating,” such as early MP3 access to “Eternal Life Volume II,” old recordings, and other little treats depending on how much money you throw at these guys. I’m all for seeing projects like this, and judging from my thoughts on their latest single, I’m excited to hear what this band puts out next. Updated as of 03/06/12: Looks like they met and surpassed their goal in just under nine hours from the launch of the program. For those of you wanting to hear “Eternal Life Volume II” weeks before it’s released, you can still donate and they’ll send an MP3 access code to you shortly thereafter.
