Several years ago, I used to write a post dedicated to old music videos titled Friday Throwback. It was a fun trek into yesteryear, remembering great songs and videos. Well, I’m bringing it back to Popblerd! Most Fridays, I’ll post about a memorable video here.

The first video is Heavy D & The Boyz’s Nuttin’ But Love. Heavy D’s passing earlier this year was surprising as all hell to me. It was tragic and maybe a bit underreported. The cause of death was recently released and according to MTV.com (through TMZ), Hev died from pulmonary embolism caused by deep vein thrombosis.

Heavy D was a big part of hip hop culture and while he won’t be remembered as one of the all-time great MCs, he’ll be remembered for contributing a lot of fun music, when the music and culture leaned toward fun.

Waterbed Hev worked as a music executive and helped influence many artists in the mid-90s. He also got into movies after his rap career was over, starring in films like the Eddie Murphy and Martin Lawrence buddy picture Life, the dance flick Step Up, and the recently released Tower Heist.

Nuttin’ But Love is just one of many great Heavy D songs, but the video is fun and features a couple of interesting cameos from Chris Tucker and a pre-Beverly Hills, 90210 Rebecca Gayheart. Middle name price tag, first name, “gotcha!”

Enjoy and remember Heavy D.
