So, as you can tell from yesterday’s post, I’ve been in something of a Daryl Hall mood lately. I’ve been a huge fan since I was a little kid, and I think it’s very cool that nowadays people recognize Daryl as one of his generation’s best songwriters and vocalists. Hall & Oates were the definition of ear candy in the early Eighties and were more influential than you might think at first glance. Listen to “I Can’t Go for That (No Can Do)” and then listen to “Billie Jean”, and you tell me…

At any rate, Daryl’s put together a great web series these couple of years called “Live from Daryl’s House”. The show, which is filmed…at Daryl’s House (natch), is like a very cool jam session with some pretty awesome acts. Smokey Robinson (obviously a big influence on Daryl) and Daryl did a show together, as have artists that were heavily influenced by Hall & Oates, such as Patrick Stump and Rob Thomas. One of the best episodes featured Canadian dance duo Chromeo, who are one of my favorite recent discoveries.

This version of “I Can’t Go for That (No Can Do) is SLAMMIN’!!

Then check Daryl and Chromeo out as they tear Boz Scaggs’ classic “Lowdown” up. Worth it just to see the percussionist catch the groove HARD about 2/3 in.

Check out more episodes here. Damn, someone should pick this up on a syndication deal and get it on real TV!
