If you’d have told me that the dude who played Ugly Wanda on “In Living Color” would have a Grammy and an Oscar by the time 2010 rolled around, I would’ve either laughed in your face or asked me to pass you the joint you were smoking.

But here we are, in 2010, and Jamie Foxx is an accomplished recording artist and actor-one of only a handful of artists who has recently had success in music and film.

Justin Timberlake would love to be that kind of double-threat. Granted, he has the music side on lock. As for his film career? Two words-“Love Guru”. That’s all I have to say about that.

News of an upcoming Foxx record have been circulating for a while. There was a teaser single called “Speak French” that went nowhere fast, so Jamie’s label has decided to call in JT-not a bad call when it comes to reinforcements (ask Madonna…or Timbaland…or Ciara). The two have collaborated on a track called “Winner”, which hit radio last week.

The song is instantly recognizable as a Timberlake work-the brass blasts at the top of the record are reminiscent of his hit with Madonna, “4 Minutes”. Otherwise, the song is hooky but fairly unremarkable. While Foxx can sing, he isn’t in possession of the world’s most distinctive voice. He also appears to be more concerned with having a hit record than he is with actually making good music. The lyrical content of his songs isn’t really in line with the things a dude over 40 should be singing about. It makes him sound disposable…and a little bit creepy.

The song’s not good enough to make me interested in a Jamie Foxx record, although-as overrated as I think he is-I do wish Justin would stop playing around and release a proper follow-up to “FutureSex/LoveSounds”.
