If you haven’t yet picked up “Sad Man Happy Man”, the latest effort from singer/songwriter/guitarist/poet/columnist/blogger/author/mancrush of mine in a totally not-gay but would love to be best friends kinda way Mike Doughty, then you, sir or madam, are missing out. Now, one of the album’s best songs, “(I Keep On) Rising (Up)” (I may have gotten my parentheses mixed up) has a video as cool as the song. Thanks to some nifty special effects and the presence of Mike’s faithful right-hand cellist, the unbelievably awesome Andrew “Scrap” Livingston, the “Rising Up” clip just might be the best video of Doughty’s solo career.

Mike’s also criss-crossing the country on tour right now. So make sure you check out his website and find a date near you. Once you buy your ticket, think of all the questions you may have ever wanted to ask him, and save it for the Question Jar. If you are unfamiliar with what the Question Jar is, just think of a question now and keep it in the back of your head until the show. You’ll figure it out then.

Oh yeah, the video.
