Circa Survive’s Anthony Green is back, with young legs. And “Young Legs.”
We Saw It: Title Fight with Balance and Composure, Cruel Hand, and Slingshot Dakota on October 11, 2013 at the El ‘N’ Gee (New London, CT)
This past Friday evening Title Fight’s fall tour rolled through New London, Connecticut’s soon to be closing (again) El ‘N Gee Club. The show opened up with Slingshot Dakota. Although I did not see them perform live, I heard them while standing outside the venue waiting for a friend. They at glimpses reminded me of The Cure, The Get Up Kids, and The Anniversary. My entrance into the venue was timed perfectly to the beginnings of Portland, Maine’s Cruel Hand. […]
Touche Amore, “DNA (live)”: The Viewfinder Review
For those who are new to Touche Amore (haven’t seen them live), their newly released (live) music video for “ DNA” off the soon to be released Is Survived By is a great glimpse into their powerful, moving live performances. Frontman Jeremy Blohm, paces anxiously throughout the duration of the 2 plus minutes of feverous guitar work and drum pulsing adding his screams and pleas to the beautiful churning behind him. Unlike, their first single “ Just Exist” which was more melodic compared […]
Look Mexico, The Hang Loose Collection: Album Review
Tallahassee then Austin then back to Tallahassee based Look Mexico (yes, the band that uses Vin Diesel quotes as song titles in case you didn’t already know) have released The Hang Loose Collection, a name your price a.k.a. free for those who are financially challenged EP featuring some of their earliest work as a band. Originally released as a CD-R companion (limited to 100 or so copies) to So Byzantine (2005) it’s now available via Holy Hell Records’ bandcamp page ! This […]
Revocation, Revocation: Album Review
Rising stars in the American metal scene, Revocation have submitted their case for why they are the best metal band from the States and it’s hard to argue with the evidence with the release of their latest album. Revocation, the new self-titled album from the Massachusetts band, is a pure thrill ride of riffs and more! I’ll be the first to admit that I was skeptical about these guys during their first few releases, but with this release they have […]
Puig Destroyer, Puig Destroyer: EP Review
For those who don’t follow sports, Yasiel Puig has taken Major League Baseball by storm since being called up to the L.A. Dodgers and putting up a .391 batting average, a .616 slugging percentage, and destroying opposing pitching. With a last name like Puig and two dudes with a history of playing heavy music who are also baseball aficionados how could a play on the famous Pig Destroyer name not happen. Puig Destroyer features Riley Breckenridge, former drummer of now […]
Cardboard Funk 02: Wait, This Isn’t About Trading Cards At All!!
Now normally I would be contributing a piece about my trading card collection from the late 80s – mid 90s (raised eyebrow-ed.), but today I felt like addressing a weird sports conundrum I faced this weekend-how I do I always get sucked into the vortex of the major golf championship? Being an avid sports fan I do take note of things going on the world of sports be it trade deadline moves in the four major sports leagues (NHL, NBA, […]
Cardboard Funk 01: Joe Juneau
Joe Juneau (seen here as a member of the Boston Bruins) had a lengthy career as a journeymen wingman. After spending his college years playing for both R.P.I. (NCAA Frozen Four participant last year) and the Canadian National Team, where he won a silve medal at the 1992 Albertville Games, Juneau joined the Bruins for 14 games during the 1991-92 season. The following year was Joe Juneau’s best year statically. He racked up a career high 32 goals and 70 […]
Not Too Cool for Schools (Rival Schools, Brighton Music Hall 3/6/11)
This past Sunday evening Rival Schools took the stage at the newly renamed and slightly redesigned venue now known as Brighton Music Hall. With the band’s original line-up of Walter Schreifels, Ian Love, Sam Siegler, and Cache Tolman together Rival Schools tore through old favorites like “Travel by Telephone” and “Good Thing” along with jams from the new record Pedals including the single “Wring It Out”. They also jokingly played a ska versions of their own’ “Good Thing” and Metallica’s […]
