Dan Wilson Steps Back In Front Of The Mic With “Disappearing”
by MJ on Nov 1, 2013 • 10:00 am 3 CommentsOne word I forgot to use in my Toad The Wet Sprocket review from yesterday was “warmth.” There’s a warmth to their music that draws you in, makes them feel more familiar than your average musician. The same quality applies to Dan Wilson. Since his days as 1/3 of Semisonic, there’s been a warm vibe to his music. Dan’s spent much of the past four or five years behind the scenes, co-writing tunes for artists like Adele and P!nk, but he’s decided to step back out in front with a new solo album due in 2014 and a single “Disappearing.”
Featuring pretty background vocals from Sara Bareilles, this is good stuff indeed. Enjoy.

Great to have him back. Semisonic was more than just a one-hit wonder, and from Trip Shakespeare to parts of that one solo album he did, he’s shown great capacity for uniquely pleasing pop music, so hopefully this is something to celebrate come 2014. Thanks for the heads-up, Mike!

I think Dan’s an amazing songwriter, and I agree that Semisonic was much, MUCH more than “Closing Time” (which might not even be in my all time top five songs of his.) I have an autographed copy of his “Free Life” displayed proudly in my music room. Looking forward to the new stuff!
