Aubrey, we’re not feeling this one.
I sort of halfheartedly defend Drake. There’s a multi-facetedness to him that I respect. I mean, it’s not like “hardcore” and “sensitive” are mutually exclusive, right?
There’s something about “Started From the Bottom,” the first track from the Canadian rapper/singer’s as-yet-untitled third album, though, that rubs me the wrong way. I can’t say exactly what it is. Or maybe I can. Perhaps it’s too defensive? Perhaps the spare 808-led beat has become too commonplace over the years. Perhaps it’s the egregious use of the infamous “n” word (which, despite trying to lighten up, still gives me fits when used excessively.) Whatever it is, I just can’t get with this song.
Hopefully this isn’t indicative of the rest of the music he’s working on lately.

I assume, since you’ve chosen to identify yourself as “critics suck”, that you’re implying that nobody but a fellow rapper is allowed to have an opinion on rap music. By extension, I assume you must also believe that all art is unassailable, *unless* the person criticizing said art is involved in the same field; i.e., since I am not a film actor, I am not allowed to say that Adam Sandler makes terrible movies.
So, by your own extension of logic, you have given me the right to call you an idiot. Because I am a fellow person who types things on the internet, which puts me in the unique position of evaluating your comments. Allow me to write a review of your comment: “The poster known as ‘critics suck’ lost me the second he used the letter ‘u’ as a replacement for the word ‘you’, which is the same thing as admitting your IQ is in the single digits. I hope to see better work from ‘critics suck’ next time, but I’m just not feeling his current work. Grade: F.”

If I thought I was a good enough rapper, I would. But I know I’m not qualified to rap, so I don’t. That doesn’t mean I don’t know what it takes to be a good rapper, though.
