I’ll admit to not knowing much about Sy Smith. I know she’s been around since the mid Nineties (I remember selling her cassette singles back when I was working at/managing a record store.) I know the soul blogs these days love her. But I’ll certainly be paying some more attention to her thanks to her saucy rendition of an old school favorite: Billy Ocean’s “Nights (Feel Like Gettin’ Down)”.

Ocean’s original must have sparked off many a Friday night celebration back in the day (I was too young to partake when the song was a hit) and Smith’s version has the same celebratory vibe. She’s assisted by the always-fantastic Rahsaan Patterson in both the song and the video.

The song is taken from Sy’s album Fast & Curious, which was released earlier this year. Check it out!!
