It’s been almost three years since Miguel’s Kaleidoscope Dream came out and announced the maturation of one of R&B’s most interesting new talents. Blessed with a creamy falsetto, a filthy mouth and an aesthetic that owed much to Dirty Mind-era Prince, Miguel had me playing songs like “Adorn”, “The Thrill” and “Candles In The Sun” in constant rotation. Actually, “Adorn” is the most-played song ever in my last.fm library.

A 3-song EP released on Miguel’s Soundcloud page whetted fans’ appetite for new music, and the singer/songwriter finally returns with a more fully realized version of “Coffee”, one of that EP’s tracks. It’s the first shot from Miguel’s third album, which is due this summer.

“Coffee” is straight up “knock down some furniture and rub ice on his/her nipples like Spike Lee and Rosie Perez in Do The Right Thing” fucking music. Actually, “fucking” is the song’s subtitle and replaces “coffee” in most of the chorus. Those of you who appreciate sensuality and occasionally enlist audio to assist with putting it down have a new song to add to your playlist. A verse from Wale will probably help out with radio play but doesn’t add much to the song. It’s all about those crunchy guitar riffs and Miguel’s heavy-lidded delivery. Some babies might get born off of this one.
