Interesting to see Mayer Hawthorne still pulling singles and videos from Where Does This Door Go like it’s a new album. Well, if you are late to the party, it’s no big deal so long as you are AT the party, and Hawthorne’s third full-length is a diamond of an album.
Although the high-gloss visuals for “Crime” were just released a few weeks ago, Mayer’s back with a decidedly more low-key vibe for “The Stars Are Ours.” The Steely Dan-reminiscent tune is paired with a charming home movie vibe. Mayer lets his younger relative Jake (age 13) handle most of the airtime here, and the result is a fun little clip that perfectly captures the freereelingwheeling vibe of “Stars.”
