One thing I find really interesting is how dense and abstract The Roots’ sound has gotten since they became the house band for Jimmy Fallon. I can’t imagine being the only person who thought a late night TV gig was going to make the Philly legends more commercial. I definitely admire the fellas for going a bit left when they had a chance at a drive straight down the middle of the road.
