I like Chromeo. They’ve got pop smarts. They’ve definitely listened to a lot of early ’80s post-disco boogie and infused it with a little Hall & Oates. Sometimes their music comes off as tribute (or if you’re the negative type, taking the piss out of…) but I check for them the way I check for any music that makes me want to dance and doesn’t take itself too seriously.
They’ve got a new album coming out called White Women and they’ve released a couple of singles from it so far. Today, they dropped “Come Alive,” which might be the best of the bunch. It features Chaz Rundick, who is better known as Toro Y Moi, who I’ve only found myself interested in lately (thanks to a note-perfect cover of Alexander O’ Neal and Cherrelle‘s “Saturday Love.”) Chaz’s vocals very nicely add some spice to the typical Chromeo sound. I probably need a couple more listens before determining whether I love it or simply like it. Either way, it’s solid. And very danceable.
What do you think?

Agreed that this is the strongest track to drop from the album. Now they’ve got my attention.

I feel like Toro Y Moi has my attention more than Chromeo does at this point!

Cool cut. I’m more of a fan of Toro, but I’ll do some digging into Chromeo. Thx for the HIP! Peace and SOUL…

Oh, and they sure did steal their logo design from Cameo.
