Mayer Hawthorne has promised to back away from his falsetto soul into something a little more eclectic on his upcoming third album, Where Does This Door Go, and “Reach Out Richard” does not disappoint.
Joined by/produced by Pharrell (who is every fucking where right now,) this is a slammin’ Steely Dan-influenced pop/funk number. I’m not sure what it is, but suddenly Skateboard P is working with artists he has a really good vibe with, and it’s working out pretty well (commercially as well as qualitatively.)
Just about another month remains until Mayer’s album hits. Till then…
