If you’ve neglected artist extraordinaire Mike Doughty over the years or just wondered what he was up to then his latest single, “Sunshine”, off of the recent The Flip Is Another Honey is the perfect reintroduction. It’s sort of an original and sort of a cover because of the sampled chorus featuring John Denver’s “Sunshine on My Shoulders”. Whoever it’s ultimately credited to, the track is great with an organ intro that permeates throughout, a steady beat, and Doughty waxing poetic with a slick lyrical flow.
The video is also just as extraordinary and features Nikki Perkins on sign language duty while Doughty plays the geetar and sings. But let’s face it, we’re all just here to see Andrew “Scrap” Livingston doing his thang on screen. Which he does.
