So far, the “Why The Hell Should I Like?” series done in collaboration with The Man in the Gray Flannel Suit (which is now boasting a nifty new design) has worked out very well. Additionally, it is now seasonably appropriate to wear flannel, so it ties together better this time of year. He got me to listen to (and appreciate) Rush, there’s still a few Field Music songs to check out, and I think I may have turned Mr. Suit into a Tribe Called Quest fan. My powers of persuasion are legendary-well, not that legendary. If they were, I’d have woken up this morning with Ray LaMontagne next to me.
Anyway, the latest “Why The Hell…” column had a bit of a twist. Instead of Mr. Suit and The Blerd going at it, our man Drew stepped up and said he wanted to take a crack (not take crack, take *a* crack). The subject of the column? Legendary rock band KISS. While I, too, question why people like Gene and the boys so much, I figured sending Drew in would freshen things up a little bit-and it did.
You can go and read Drew’s thoughts here. I have to say I agreed with what he had to say, for the most part. I should also say that Gene Simmons is one of those guys I just feel to be so reprehensible on a personal basis that I don’t think I’ll ever have a healthy appreciation for the band. While you’re checking out Drew’s piece, why don’t you check out one of the best covers of a KISS song I remember hearing-Lenny Kravitz and Stevie Wonder’s funked-up rendition of “Deuce”.
