I’ve gotta admit-Funny or Die has the comedy game on lock right now.
If you listened to the Blerd Radio podcast a couple of weeks ago, you’ll remember that Jesse and I talked about “Happy Endings”. It’s quickly shaping up to be one of my favorite sitcoms (hey-it’s good enough to keep me tuned in to network TV past 10-at which time, I’ve usually switched over to sports or turned the TV off entirely). The most interesting character (to me, anyway) is Max, who is played by Adam Pally. Why is Max interesting? ‘Cause he’s the rare gay guy on TV who’s not a poof. It bears repeating-even though it’s great to have gay characters on television (because there’s still plenty of folks out there who need lessons in tolerance), it kinda sucks that they’re all sort of one-dimensional…well, maybe not so much one-dimensional, but definitely stereotypical. Max is just a guy-who, oh shit, happens to be gay.
Of course, in real life, Adam is straight…and married. Fuck.
Anyway, this humorous little clip features Adam and the one and only Fred Savage. Yes, THAT Fred Savage. Kevin Arnold himself is now a very respected director, having helmed episodes of “Ugly Betty”, “It’s Always Sunny in Philadelphia” and…”Happy Endings”. What do we learn over the course of this clip? Fred didn’t bone Winnie Cooper (that’s remarkable restraint, too…she was/is hot AND smart), he didn’t bone Topanga (wasn’t his brother in that show?), he didn’t bone Blossom (um…well, good for that), and he has a lot of respect for Emmanuel Lewis.
We also learn that Adam apparently spits his fingernails out after biting them. Bad form. I bite and chew them up, although I still remember hearing a story on the news about someone whose nails collected in his stomach and then he had to go to the hospital and have his stomach pumped. I wonder if that was a true story…
