The Viewfinder: Jay-Z and Kanye’s “Ni**as in Paris”
While I may not have been the biggest fan of Watch the Throne overall, I have to admit that “Ni**as in Paris” was one of my favorite tracks of the year. A killer synthesizer beat, Will Farrell samples, and of course the glorious interplay of Hova and Ye combined to make one of the most fun songs on the year. While the single’s been on the radio since September, Jay-Z and Kanye are just now dropping the song’s video, debuting […]
Popblerd’s Grammy Preview & Predictions 2012: Rap Categories
Nicki MInaj is one of this year’s leading Grammy nominees in the rap category. How will she fare against mainstays Kanye West and Eminem?
This Year’s Coachella Lineup Is Hipster Heaven!
After several false-alarms and Photoshopped posters, the official lineup for the 2012 Coachella Music and Arts Festival has been released. For the first time, the festival, which takes place in Indio, California, will be stretched out over two weekends; beginning April 15th-18th and finishing April 20-22nd. This is likely to accommodate for the large crowds (last year the the attendance record was estimated at about 100,000 people) that travel world-wide for the outdoor festival. Each weekend will have identical lineups, […]
Friday Throwback – Jay-Z’s I Can’t Get With That
Blue Ivy Carter was born to Beyonce and Jay-Z on January 7th, making her still less than a week old today. It also makes her the youngest charting “artist” in Billboard history. Because her cries and gurgles are credited on Jay-Z’s Glory, which Big Money linked to earlier this week , she gets to bask in the “glory” of a being on the R&B/Hip Hop songs chart. I imagine the song will gain even more momentum. BIC’s arrival made me think about Jay-Z’s […]
The Singles Bar: Jay-Z’s “Glory”
The biggest celebrity news this week was unquestionably the birth of Ivy Blue Carter, the child of rap legend Jay-Z and his larger-than-life pop star wife, Beyonce Knowles. What I bet you weren’t expecting was for young Blue Ivy to potentially become the youngest artist to ever appear on a Billboard chart! In honor of his first child’s birth, Jay has released “Glory.” It’s a touching (if obviously rush-recorded) tribute that features his newborn’s coos in the song’s mix. Also […]
Blerd Radio – 2011 Year End Podcast
If you haven’t seen the Popblerd Staff’s Best Of Music 2011 list, check it out . Big Money and I discussed this list in the year end edition of Blerd Radio. We go over the top 40 albums of the year and discuss our thoughts of where certain albums landed. Did Bon Iver deserve to be our top album of the year? What kind of songs will Adele write in five years? Do the Beastie Boys deserve to be so high on the […]
bLISTerd: The Popblerd Staff Presents The Best Music of 2011…And Some Playlists!!
We’ve spent much of the past week looking back at the year that was, with many of the writers on staff posting their lists of their 11 favorite albums of 2011. Everything from indie rock to hip-hop got mentioned, and every writer that contributed an individual list (and a couple that didn’t) ranked their albums. Those rankings were then compiled and the result…a quick and dirty list of the site’s 40 favorite albums of the year. Suck it, Billboard! 1) […]
bLISTerd Presents: GG’s Top 11 Albums of 2011
I’ve become very good at buying music these days. I rarely dislike anything I purchase, but that is a problem. With the ability to sample nearly anything and everything before I buy, my taste has become so narrowed down. Thus, my list is probably the most predictable list of all. But I’m not sure that’s a bad thing. The great thing about music is that it’s so subjective. You like what you like. I don’t listen to music as much […]
The Jukebox From Hell 07: “If I Were A Boy”
If you and I are friends – and if we’re not, we probably should be – you’re undoubtedly scratching your head right now, wondering why I’m about to lay into Beyonce. After all, I’ve been a vocal and unabashed fan of Lady B even before she went solo; I’ve got love for Miss Knowles (Mrs. Z?), and I don’t care who knows. She’s one of the finest pop stars of our time, a classy performer with an ear for a […]
The Viewfinder – Jay-Z And Kanye West Rock The Victoria’s Secret Fashion Show
Jay-Z and Kanye West continued their Watch The Throne tour by performing songs at the Victoria’s Secret Fashion Show last night. Big Money Mike went to see the twosome in concert last week and noted that Jay and Kanye performed Ni**as In Paris five times in a row during the concert. Well, Big Money, you’re only going to see it once here. (By the way, back in 1996, the radio version of this song would’ve been called Homies In Paris or Two Dudes In Paris.)
