A while back, I hipped you to a gentleman who goes by the name of Harts. The Australian musician hits me right in one of my musical sweet spots-dance/funk with an early ’80s flavor. As this sound has gotten extremely popular, especially with non-U.S. artists, of late, I seem to be migrating back to modern music. Artists like Mama’s Gun (more on them some other time), Jamie Woon, Disclosure and Harts are a big part of this.
A week or so ago, Harts released his debut album, Daydreamer. I hate to lean so hard on comparisons to other artists, but the best description for the music contained within is Nile Rodgers and Daft Punk travel to Minneapolis. The guy is an amazing rhythm guitar player (check out “Angels Walk Below” for evidence,) can shred with the best of them, and has a pretty versatile voice as well-shifting from a natural range to an effortless falsetto like some guy from Minneapolis…struggling to remember his name…likes purple…wears high heels…killer perm…
Anyway, there’s a reason that folks like Andre Cymone, Questlove, and, yes, Mr. Nelson are checking for Harts. You can stream Daydreamer below, and the album is available digitally on iTunes and Amazon. Personally, I wish a CD was more readily available (I’m old school!) but that won’t stop me from heading over to Amazon and shelling out a few bucks for this bad boy.
