It’s been three years since we’ve had a full length from Chromeo, and 2010’s Business Casual carried on in much the same vein as their previous work. The funky duo let “Over Your Shoulder” loose last month, and now we get another taste of the upcoming White Women LP in “Sexy Socialite.” (Props for the Morris Day and the Time reference!) The track is more of the same: a sleek, funky throwback to early ’80s electro and italo disco. It’s […]
bLISTerd: the Top 10 TLC Songs
In anticipation of tonight’s VH1 movie CrazySexyCool: the TLC Story, we at PopBlerd! thought it was only fitting to countdown the top 10 TLC songs of all-time.
Songs in the Key of Life: “You Get What You Give”
This edition of Songs in the Key of Life begins with a confession: I’d completely forgotten about this song for over a decade. It wasn’t until a few years ago when a student DJ played it on WIUP that I reacquainted myself with the New Radicals’ 1998 hit, “You Get What You Give.” The music video emphasizes youthful mischief-making in the face of authority and impending adulthood, and sure enough, a portion of the song’s lyrics reflect a similar sentiment. But […]

Monster Magnet, The Last Patrol: Album Review
The space lords from Red Bank, NJ have returned. They are a band that has survived into the 21st Century, are in their 24th year together and have just released their 10th, and possibly best, studio album to date. The Last Patrol, while not as trippy and psychedelic as earlier works, is every bit the signature stoner-mixed-with-classic-rock sound they’ve created their own niche for. The standard album is a taut nine songs of pure ‘Power Tripping.’ The album begins on […]
Reconfigured: Prince and the Revolution, Around the World in a Day
In “Reconfigured,” we take liberties with revisionism by reediting, reimagining, and resequencing a particular album or albums in an effort to reconfigure the work into a stronger whole. Without a doubt, Prince’s musical output in the 1980s remains one of the most consistently innovative runs in pop music history. The only artists that immediately come to mind as matching or surpassing consistency, quality, and volume of Prince’s 1980s output are the similarly legendary runs of David Bowie and Stevie Wonder […]
We Saw It: Title Fight with Balance and Composure, Cruel Hand, and Slingshot Dakota on October 11, 2013 at the El ‘N’ Gee (New London, CT)
This past Friday evening Title Fight’s fall tour rolled through New London, Connecticut’s soon to be closing (again) El ‘N Gee Club. The show opened up with Slingshot Dakota. Although I did not see them perform live, I heard them while standing outside the venue waiting for a friend. They at glimpses reminded me of The Cure, The Get Up Kids, and The Anniversary. My entrance into the venue was timed perfectly to the beginnings of Portland, Maine’s Cruel Hand. […]
Get Your Recommended Daily Allowance Of Prince’s “Breakfast”
Something tells me that 55 year old Prince Rogers Nelson still has the libido of a 27 year old. His new “Breakfast Can Wait” video certainly oozes sex, and in a significantly more impure version than I think his Jehovah’s Witness faith might allow. Of course, Prince himself isn’t actually in the video. A series of sexy dancers (see what I did there) trade moves in the clip, while a female Prince impersonator lovingly fingers a guitar. It’s light and […]
Tired Pony, The Ghost of The Mountain: Album Review
Right place, right time sometimes when it comes to discovering music these days. So it was late night about a week ago when I discovered Tired Pony – a supergroup of sorts. The group is made up of Gary Lightbody (Snow Patrol), Peter Buck and Scott McCaughey (REM), Jacknife Lee (producer), Richard Colburn (Belle & Sebastien), Iain Archer and Troy Stewart. The Ghost of The Mountain was released two weeks ago and is actually the groups sophomore album. As its pastoral album cover […]
Rock & Roll Hall Of Fame 2014: Argument Time
Nirvana, welcome to the rock hall (oh, like they won’t get in…)
