May is quickly shaping up as an exciting month for new music. Michael Jackson’s Xscape, new albums by The Black Keys and Ray LaMontagne, and Mariah Carey’s long-delayed opus are just a few of the interesting records scheduled to hit record store shelves and online outlets next month.
Oh, who am I kidding? I’m not copping that new Mariah record unless a miracle happens.
Yesterday, it was announced that the Legendary Roots Crew is dropping a new album, called And Then You Shoot Your Cousin, in May. In my world (as it should be in yours) any new Roots album is cause for celebration. Although I’ll admit to being underwhelmed by their last album, Undun (high expectations are a mother,) I’m super-excited for this record. Something tells me that The Tonight Show has not dulled the band’s potent mix of lyrical and musical genius.
The first single from the concept album is entitled “When The People Cheer.” Check it out below. What do you think?
