So, I used to be a big Coldplay fan. Now, I’m not so much.
I’m sure Chris Martin and the guys are cool dudes and everything. They don’t put on superstar airs, even though they’re probably the biggest rock band to emerge in the 21st century. Their last three albums, though, have brought forth diminishing returns. Mylo Xyloto is a serious examination away from going into my junk pile.
This new track, “Midnight,” though, is interesting. Interesting regardless of the unorthodox method in which it was delivered-with no warning or explanation. We don’t know if this track is a one-off, if this is the lead single for a new album, or anything like that.
It’s also the least stadium-rock, most Radiohead-aping song they’ve done in a long time (it doesn’t sound like a compliment, but it is.) This is like Thom Yorke’s The Eraser mashed up with Imogen Heap’s “Hide And Seek.”
I’m not sure if I could take an entire album of this, but color me intrigued.

man, I dig Mylo Xyloto. although it was weak that “Paradise” eclipsed “Every Teardrop” in airplay to the point where the latter seemed like just a blip, it’s way better.

def. like Viva la Vida/the accompanying EP/Xyloto significantly better than anything before it besides Rush of Blood

The three-song stretch from this through “Oceans” is incredible. This is probably their best album and I’m surprised it’s getting such mixed reviews
main complaint is that “Sky Full of Stars” doesn’t work and that may end up being the album’s defining single “Paradise”-style
