How’s this for fortuitous timing?
When I first heard Justin Timberlake’s “Suit & Tie,” I immediately thought of Robin Thicke-specifically his song and video “Magic.”
So in the midst of the release of JT’s 20/20 Experience, Robin has decided to resurface with a brand new track. Check out “Blurred Lines.” The video features Pharrell Williams and T.I., both of whom have been present for Justin smashes past. For the record, Skateboard P. also owns Star Trak, the label Robin records for.
The song is reminiscent of “Wanna Love You Girl,” a Robin hit from a few years back, with a few modern touches and smarter lyrics. The video is fun as hell. A stint on BET’s “Real Husbands of Hollywood” seems to have loosened Robin up-his acting chops prove that the apple doesn’t fall far from the tree (or the trees, since both of Rob’s parents are actors.) T.I. also looks to have stepped up his personality/acting game. Pharrell just looks and acts really metro.
…and is that a “Don’t Stop ’til You Get Enough” sample I hear?
There’s no release date yet for Robin’s sixth (!) album, but I’ll be looking forward to it for sure!

I think you’re spot on with the song and the influence. But the description of Pharrell in the video…come on, man.

This is already the most fun song on the 20/20 Experience. Robin’s falsetto also kills Justin’s.
