Individually, Mos Def Yasiin Bey and Talib Kweli are dope. Together, these dudes are magic. That thing about the whole being greater than the sum of it’s parts? Totally accurate when it comes to these two. Anyway, there’s been talk of a second Black Star album for dog years at this point, and it looks like things might be finally in the process of happening.
“Fix Up” was premiered on The Colbert Report a while back, and it’s finally available for purchase on iTunes. It’s so nice to hear these two flowing together that you almost don’t realize how mediocre the track (produced by the normally impeccable Madlib) is. Then again, maybe I just need to hear this joint on real speakers instead of listening to the computer.
You also might wanna know that Black Star is also working on a mix cd tribute to Aretha Franklin, entitled “Black Star Aretha.’ Go here to download a free MP3 of the group’s first song off the mix cd, “You Already Knew,” produced by Oh No. An album of songs that sound like “Ms. Fat Booty”? I’d be down with that.

Well, BLERD, while the track isn’t exactly “Respiration”-level amazing, I think it’s pretty good. I wish Mos could rediscover his late-90s passion, but at the very least he’s still a good emcee these days. Listen to the song on good speakers and then get back to me 🙂
