The Singles Bar: Noel Gallagher wins the battle of the brothers with second single
by Jesse on Sep 18, 2011 • 10:00 am No CommentsThose who know me, know that during Oasis’ tenure and afterward, I’ve always been Team Liam. After listening to Noel Gallagher’s second single off of the upcoming High Flying Birds album (Due in October in the UK, November in the US), I might be switching teams. I don’t say this lightly.
Everyone knows that Noel was the driving force in Oasis. This is fact. He was also the guy willing to try new things. Take his collaborations with The Chemical Brothers or his massive beats driven instrumental “Teotihuacan” off of The X-Files soundtrack. In other words, the man knows what he’s doing.
So onto “AKA…What A Life!”.
It’s a piano-laden thumper akin to “Falling Down” off of Oasis’ swan song Dig Out Your Soul. Noel builds layer upon layer into the song whether it’s a wall of guitars or electronics or his strong croon until a single bass drum heralds the music to fade out and the elder Gallagher “Woo hoo’s” out of there.
Take 4 minutes out of your day, listen to this now and try to tell me that this doesn’t blow away everything on Beady Eye’s debut.
