Over the years, I’ve become hopelessly addicted to memoir-type books. I’m not much for fiction-I find real life much more interesting than stories. Over the year and change we’ve been running this thing, I’ve posted reviews on solid memoir-type books by NBA journeyman Paul Shirley as well as regular dude/fellow blogger Jason Mulgrew. Both books were highly enjoyable. You can now add another book to that list-“Got Junk?”, a book by our very own Tom Acox (he also runs The Unqualified Economist. Go take a look-I’ll wait.)
“Got Junk?”, available on Amazon.com as an e-book, details a hellaciously hot summer post-college when Tom found himself working for 1-800-GOT-JUNK, the junk removal company. Rumbling through Philadelphia in a sweaty van (along with his equally sweaty co-workers), Acox encounters some very interesting folks in his travels. A couple negotiating a nasty split-up, rich college kids who leave behind “junk” that the average person would kill for, even (maybe) a corpse?
It’s a fun, quick read-filled with the type of pop culture references that folks in our age range would appreciate wholeheartedly. Acox has a good writing style-easygoing and friendly, while reading the book, you get the feeling that if you were sitting in a bar with a group of friends, he could easily capture the entire group’s attention with his stories.
Not only is “Got Junk?” a quick read, it’s a cheap one!! You can get the book for less than a cup of coffee at Starbuck’s. It’ll last you a lot longer, that’s for sure. If you’re looking for some good, fun, summer reading, “Got Junk?” might be right up your alley!
