If you’ve heard of Matt Morris, it might be via his songwriting talents, featured on hits by Christina Aguilera and Kelly Clarkson. It might be due to his stint on the “Mickey Mouse Club” back in the day alongside Xtina, Britney, Keri Russell, Ryan Gosling and Justin Timberlake (damn-what the hell was in the water over at the Disney studios?). It might be because of his chill-inducing cover of Leonard Cohen’s “Hallelujah” that he performed with JT and Charlie Sexton at the “Hope for Haiti” earlier this year. Regardless of how you know of him, he’s definitely someone to watch out for in the future.
Despite his poppy origins, he’s not trafficking in the dance/pop realm. The son of country/pop singer/songwriter Gary Morris, Matt’s music is more in the confessional singer/songwriter realm. His album, “When Everything Breaks Open”, has been available digitally for some time now but is finally in physical stores today via his boy JT’s Tennman Records. It draws favorable comparisons to the likes of Jason Mraz, John Mayer and Jack Johnson. The video for “Live Forever” premiered recently, and while the clip itself has some interesting animated elements, ultimately the song is what’s worth remembering, with a melody and chorus that’ll rattle around in your head long after the video’s over. Check it out for yourself.
