If your thing is female singer/songwriters, then I’ve got a tip for you.
Ashley Arrison’s not a household name yet, but I wouldn’t be surprised if she is very soon. She’s a singer/songwriter who gives me a more youthful Sheryl Crow type of vibe. There’s definitely a bit of rootsiness in her work, but it’s polished enough that it would pass muster on Top 40 radio.
Her latest single is called “Trying to Help You Out”, and if the voice singing background vocals sounds a little familiar, that’s because it belongs to none other than superstar Kelly Clarkson. Kelly also co-wrote the song.
Ashley’s debut album, “Hearts on Parade”, hits the streets on July 1st. Upon hearing the single and doing a little research, I discovered her connection to another pop superstar-apparently she and a certain Justin Timberlake performed together as kids. There’s a YouTube clip of the two performing Paula Abdul’s “Opposites Attract” back in the day. I’ll be charitable to both Ashley and JT and let you guys find that one yourselves.
Anyhow, check out the single. It’s pretty catchy and I’m sure this won’t be the last we hear of Ashley.
