There’s more to Iceland than Bjork! Check out Of Mice and Men, who have a new album out now!
This Year’s Coachella Lineup Is Hipster Heaven!
After several false-alarms and Photoshopped posters, the official lineup for the 2012 Coachella Music and Arts Festival has been released. For the first time, the festival, which takes place in Indio, California, will be stretched out over two weekends; beginning April 15th-18th and finishing April 20-22nd. This is likely to accommodate for the large crowds (last year the the attendance record was estimated at about 100,000 people) that travel world-wide for the outdoor festival. Each weekend will have identical lineups, […]
bLISTerd Presents: Brittany’s Top 11 Albums of 2011
Okay, I’ll admit it- I didn’t listen to a lot of music released this year. I can’t really explain why- I think partially it was because I was listening to some of the albums released last year still (because Sufjan Stevens’ Age of Adz is still my favorite from 2010), and the other reason is probably because I tend to procrastinate when it comes to buying/listening to new albums anyway. For example: Bon Iver’s self-titled release (which is on the […]
bLISTerd Presents: Stephen’s Top 11 Albums of 2011
As someone who usually finds himself spinning the same couple dozen favorites over and over again, joining the Popblerd! team gave me new reason to leave my musical bubble and dive head first into the year’s new music. Needless to say, it was a wonderful experience. I ended up with over thirty albums all told in my final tally of the year’s best, but like any bad parent, I was able to pick favorites. So without further ado, here are […]
bLISTerd: Happy Anniversary, MTV!: The 50 Best Videos of the ’00s (40-31)
Madonna writhes around in a leotard, Dave Grohl channels Michael Douglas in “Falling Down”, and The White Stripes do “Conan” (in other words, #50-#41) can be found here . Now, here’s the next batch of new millennium video hits! (said in douchey DJ voice) 40. Burning Beard | Clutch (2005) “Burning Beard” by Clutch had me the moment Neil Fallon opened his maw and barked “Everyday/I wake up/Drink a lot of coffee and watch the CNN” (He also actually barks later […]
Chart Stalker: It’s Britney (Again), Bitch!
This week’s Billboard album chart features 5 new albums in the Top Ten, led by Britney Spears. Her seventh studio album, Femme Fatale, opens at the top spot with 276,000 copies sold. On the good side, that represents the second highest first week number of the year so far (narrowly edging out last week’s Chris Brown total). Also on the good side, it’s Britney’s sixth number one album (out of seven releases). On the bad side, it’s the lowest first […]
The New Improved Blerd Radio: Now with No Echo!
Not only has Jesse been a great addition to the Popblerd! staff, he’s also helped me revitalize the somewhat dormant Blerd Radio! (translation: I was a little too lazy to keep doing these myself.) Our first record was recorded last week, but fell victim to some serious audio issues; namely the fact that everything I said echoed. With audio issues fixed, we forged on ahead earlier this week and recorded a much more successful episode. Join Jesse and I as […]
Chart Stalker 3/30/11: No Such Thing as Bad Press
What brings me to this particular conclusion? The fact that Chris Brown’s F.A.M.E. debuts atop the Billboard 200 album chart this week with the second biggest first week sales of his career. Not even a full-on temper tantrum on the set of “Good Morning America” after being confronted with questions regarding his arrest for assault could stop over 270,0o0 fans from purchasing his album. Interestingly enough, F.A.M.E.‘s first week number is also higher than the first week number for any […]
New Release Report 3/29/11: 2011? Or 2001?
Two of the last decade’s biggest and most prolific acts release new music today, although I don’t see too many people purchasing both albums. Many of you own Radiohead’s The King of Limbs already. After all, the Grammy-winning British band made the album available for purchase on their site a month or so ago. However, lots of folks owned Radiohead’s last album, In Rainbows, as well before it made it’s official physical debut at the top of 2008. And that […]
The Viewfinder: Radiohead’s “Lotus Flower”
She saw the lights, she saw the pale English face Some strange machines repeating beats and thumping bass Visions of pills that put you in a loving trance That make it possible for all white boys to dance-Ben Folds, “Zak & Sara” Within my first view of Radiohead’s new “Lotus Flower” video, these words immediately came to my head. Of course, we already knew Thom Yorke was/is a spaz, but his moves here are on some deranged, other shit. I […]
