It may sound silly, but it wasn’t until I saw the visuals for Janet Jackson’s slammin’ new single “No Sleeep” that I remembered how enrapturing the singer’s signature smile was. I don’t melt easy, but that Jackson grin graced my computer screen and I fell all the way back in love.
The buzz is building for Conversations In A Cafe, Janet’s first album of new music in 7 1/2 years, and even though I dug the chilled out vibe of “No Sleeep” from jump, it’s been a grower over the past few weeks. I don’t feel like the song necessarily needs the assist from J. Cole, but his rhymes fit in pretty well.
The video is highly reminiscent (to me) of Janet’s legendary “That’s The Way Love Goes” clip, and it’s very touching to see an almost 50-year old Janet alongside photos of her as a kid.

Replace Cole with Q-Tip and it’s the single of the summer to me.

Ha. I actually was thinking of that. “Which rapper would I rather hear on this track?”
