Prince Rogers Nelson is a frustrating cat.
Any good news involving the Purple Yoda should be taken with a grain of (organic, vegan) salt. However, it looks like the much-discussed and much-delayed 3RDEYEGIRL album Plectrum Electrum will finally see release on September 30th, as will a brand new Prince album called Art Official Age. These will be the first albums released as part of P’s new deal with Warner Brothers Records.
The track listings for both albums are below. You’ll probably recognize a solid chunk of the song titles. Art Official Age (not to be confused with De La Soul’s Art Official Intelligence series from 15 or so years ago) will boasts songs like “Breakfast Can Wait” and “Breakdown,” which have previously been released as standalone singles. One interesting thing to note is that the track “Funknroll” appears on both albums.
Prince is teasing Art Official Age with the song “Clouds,” which you can listen to here via Stereogum. I can’t say I’m crazy about the track, but I honestly haven’t been crazy about anything Prince has done since “Black Sweat.” Listen and judge for yourself.
Preorder both albums here.

I don’t mind it. To me it sounds like an 80s R&B influenced track, but not HIS 80s. Definitely wasn’t expecting something like this.

I think it’s below his standard. Not particularly exciting.
