While I’ve learned to live with posthumous albums, I have to say that posthumous videos still make me pretty uneasy.
Particularly when talking about an artist like Michael Jackson, who defined music video as we know it, the fact of the matter is that nothing made following his death is going to match up to the short films produced in his lifetime.
“A Place With No Name” is the latest clip from the successful Xscape album (amazing that 400,000 copies these days is considered successful.) It combines new footage, some special effects, and a whole lot of dancing by Michael from the “In The Closet” video shoot.) It’s not unwatchable, but at best, it reminds viewers of what a magnetic entertainer Michael was, even though you’re watching the same moves you’ve been watching for the past 25 years.
“Place” is also one of the better songs on Xscape, although I enjoy the original version a bit more.
