Have any plans to be in Brooklyn this August? It might be a good idea to check out AfroPunk fest, which has become a long-running showcase for some of today’s top “alternative” Black artists to strut their stuff.
This year’s lineup features some of my favorite artists, and a handful of folks that have gotten a lot of play on this site. The headliner is D’Angelo, whose long, long, LONG awaited third album is allegedly on the docket for a 2014 release. I’m almost afraid to say anything about it for fear that I’ll jinx it. Other artists on the bill include Popblerd favorite Me’shell Ndegeocello, ska-punk legends Fishbone, metal prodigies Unlocking The Truth, multi-talented chanteuse Alice Smith, Ice-T and his hard-rocking Body Count, and Odd Future associates Trash Talk and The Internet.
The festival takes place on August 23rd and 24th in Brooklyn’s Commodore Barry Park. Check out the full lineup and get more info about AfroPunk here.
