Hopefully, Maroon 5 Locates The “Maps” That Help Them Find Good Songs Again
by MJ on Jun 17, 2014 • 12:34 pm No CommentsI realize there are a lot (a LOT) of people who dislike Maroon 5, or more accurately Adam Levine since I’m willing to bet that the average person couldn’t name one other Maroon 5 member if their lives depended on it.
I’m not one of those people. Levine and his boys know how to write a great pop song. Even if they’ve gone the lame route and worked with song doctors to restore their pop chart luster, the results have been pretty decent. “Payphone” and “One More Night” were good songs, and Overexposed was a solid (though not spectacular) pop album. I’m somewhat excited about their upcoming fifth album, V, even though it appears that they’re retaining the same song doctors. Apparently, having a hit single is more important to Levine (and his boys) than making great music.
“Maps,” the first single from V, is not great music. It’s horrid, actually. Granted, the song will probably be a huge hit, but man…is this the same band that made “Harder To Breathe” and “Makes Me Wonder”? This song feels ridiculously calculated and regressive…and sounds less like it was made by a band and more like it was made by a machine. And that includes Adam Levine’s voice.
What say you, readers?
