The last week of July brings us white boy soul, a boy band from the past, and some angry boys bringing the arena-ready heavy metal. How’s that for eclectic?
First up (And because I’m biased) is the latest (And first of TWO albums this year!) from Five Finger Death Punch. I reviewed it in my latest Metal Monday column and while the band isn’t reinventing the wheel by any means, they sure are proving why they’re playing to sold-out crowds and ready for the big leagues. They’ve also brought along some friends as Rob Halford, Max Cavalera, Jamey Jasta, and even Tech N9ne make appearances throughout.
Next up, Backstreet’s back with In A World Like This featuring the title track as the lead off single and eleven other tracks of modern boy band delightfulness. I have not listened to these guys, um, ever (Besides the big singles at least) but one listen through a stream of the record and I can safely say: It’s not bad. Watch this space for a review and maybe more real soon.
The best thing Alan Thicke produced releases an album this week as well. I’m of course talking about Robin Thicke and his sixth (!) album Blurred Lines featuring the single of the same name which has a video with some nekkid ladies in it (see below, be warned). Will this one be another hit for the lad? Only time, and you the fans, will tell! Check back for a review on this one, too!
Also of note this week are new albums fromĀ Michael Franti & Spearhead and Cleveland metallers Chimaira. For a more complete list, go check out our friends at Pause & Play!
