Will Fitz & The Tantrums Jump Into the Big “League” With Their New Song?
by MJ on Mar 4, 2013 • 5:30 pm No CommentsFitz & the Tantrums caught my ear a couple of years ago with a refreshing retro-soul sound that owed more than a little to Hall & Oates. Matter of fact, they were one of my favorite guests to appear on “Live from Daryl’s House.” The single “MoneyGrabber” was on constant rotation at Blerd Studios, although the resulting album, Pickin’ Up the Pieces, didn’t grab me as much as the single did. Not that it was bad by any stretch of the imagination. Just not as good as the single was.
They’re returning with a new album, More Than Just a Dream (out May 7th,) and the first single from it is called “Out of My League.” It’s a bouncy jam with a slightly more pronounced rock/hipster vibe than the songs on their previous album. It may take a few more listens for me to really get into it, but I dig it at first glance. I’m pretty sure these guys kill live, so make sure you check them out on select dates with Bruno Mars this summer.
