Soundgarden has returned with their first new album in almost 16 years. Dave Grohl and Krist Novoselic are performing together with Sir Paul McCartney on some new material also. It’s inevitable that Alice In Chains would be right around the corner. If you weren’t sure what to include on your “Most Anticipated 2013 Releases” list yet, here ya go.
With “Hollow”, Alice In Chains give listeners a solid taste of what to expect on their upcoming fifth studio outing due in early 2013. Sound-wise, “Hollow” could easily fit in between Dirt or Alice In Chains with singer William DuVall bringing the band into the future while still giving nods their past. Guitarist/Vocalist Jerry Cantrell sounds as good as ever and the solo he lays down in the middle proves it while Sean Kinney and Mike Inez lay down some doom and gloom murk underneath.
Check out “Hollow” below. A digital single for the track will hit on January 8th:

Nice. Seems to me it’s pretty firmly in the territory of the self-titled disc with all those layered vocals and the chug-a-lug tempo, and I’m not really sold on the chorus, but it’s hard to be too picky when I’m just psyched they’re still making music.

@Mike S. I get so conflicted sometimes about them making new music but at the end of the day, Layne’s spirit is still there and the music is insanely solid.

Yeah, you know, I think it’d be different if Layne wrote all the songs back then, but Jerry always drove the band. I still never remember William DuVall’s name without looking it up, but he does his job and does it damn well.
