What happens when a record label wants to milk a dead celebrity and doesn’t have a wealth of quality material to choose from? Or, what happens when a record label wants to milk a dead celebrity and assumes that the public will purchase anything because sentiment for said celebrity is so strong?
Ladies and gentlemen, I present to you…”Never Give Up” by Whitney Houston.
The only completely new track to feature on the late diva’s upcoming compilation I Will Always Love You: The Best of Whitney Houston, “Never Give Up” is a song that proves that some records go unreleased for a reason. Lazy Jermaine Dupri/Bryan Michael-Cox by numbers, punched-in Whitney vocals, not even a melody to speak of. What a fucking mess. Hell, I’d almost take Michael Jackson-but-not-really-Michael Jackson singing “Breaking News” over this.
Yikes!
