Much like the invention of Reese’s Peanut Butter Cups, Hacktivist have combined two tastes that taste great together by joining djent metal (Meshugah, Vildhjarta, etc.) and rap. I know what you’re thinking: This can’t possibly work! But it does. Magnificently in fact. Just take the recently released video and single “Unlike Us” which expertly meshes the two genres perfectly.
“Unlike Us” begins and you’ll swear this is the latest Meshuggah single. It’s hard, heavy, and unrelenting in its pummeling of beats into your brain. Then the vocals chime in and you’ll know this is something different as co-vocalists J Hurley and Ben Marvin spit verses over the mechanical shredfest.
