A few years ago (2009 to be exact), Boston’s Passion Pit caused a stir with their danceable, super synth-y sound. Songs like “Sleepyhead” and “The Reeling” were bright and summery, and the band became a national hit with their full-length debut, Manners.
Michael Angelakos and company went back into the studio to work on their follow-up, and aside from the occasional remix (Lady GaGa and Katy Perry were among the beneficiaries) or DJ gig from one of the members, little was heard of the band…until now.
“Take A Walk” is the debut single from their new album Gossamer, and it’s pretty readily identifiable as a Passion Pit song. The synth sounds are super summery (say that five times fast) and the only really new wrinkle comes from Angelakos’s usage of his lower register in most of the song. Hey, you can’t do the Barry Gibb thing forever, right?
Gossamer arrives via Columbia Records on June 26th.
