The Singles Bar: Silversun Pickups “Bloody Mary (Nerve Endings)”
by Jesse on Mar 30, 2012 • 1:30 pm 2 CommentsSilversun Pickups’ last record really got to me. It was one of those feel good rock albums that had an atmosphere to it that was appropriate for any mood at any time of the day. Unfortunately, hearing “Bloody Mary (Nerve Endings)” off of Swoon’s follow up (Neck Of The Woods due on May 8th) is leaving me worried.
The song as a a whole is underwhelming and the sound is tinny. But maybe that’s the point? Singles aren’t necessarily indicative of albums but “Bloody Mary” and its’ synth heavy opening leading into five minutes of nothing don’t give me too much hope.
Check out the song below and tell us what you think! Neck Of The Woods drops on May 8th.

I agree some singles aren’t indicative of an album as a whole. Some singles aren’t even the strongest songs on an album. I’m witholding judgement. People make such a big deal about second albums – but I’ve always found the third album to be the true make or break (although this is really what? The bands 4th or 5th full-length?). I still think it maintains the aesthetic they’ve upheld – which borrows very heavily from My Blood Valentine. Not my favorite Silversun song but I’ll wait to see how it fits in the total framework.

@Kevin: Totally agree about the third album theory. That’s always where I look for the most from a band. Excited about Silversun either way.
