Although my favorite super hero of all time will always be The Hulk, Spider-Man has always been where my heart is. He’s not rich playboy or a scientist or a God. The lure of Peter Parker is that he’s just an ordinary kid who had something extraordinary happen to him. Don’t we all wish that was our origin story sometimes?
Anywho, billed as “The Untold Story”, The Amazing Spider-Man (Out July 3rd) looks to have some new twists and turns for our beloved wall-crawler judging by the new full-length trailer that just debuted.
Here you get some new shots of Denis Leary as Captain Stacy along with a glimpse or two of Rhys Ifans’ Curt Connors and as his villainous alter-ego, The Lizard. The best parts of the new trailer has to be the action and especially Andrew Garfield wisecracking as Spidey. Something I felt was severely lacking from the Raimi movies. Director Marc Webb and Sony has already come under scrutiny for such a quick turnaround after 2007’s Spider-Man 3 but I think that The Amazing Spider-Man is going to be the summer super-hero movie with the most substance.
What do you think? The Amazing Spider-Man swings into theaters on July 3rd.

It does look intriguing, but I do have somewhat of an issue with all these franchise restarts. I feel like a saw a bigger Spider-Man movie than this one 10 yeas ago. However, I imagine I’ll still take my kids.

I appreciate what they’re doing – the darker tone, etc. In fact, for my money that makes the super hero movies work better. The Raimi movies were too comic booky which was ok at first, but got tired after a while. The darkness allows for depth.
But I wonder if this is coming out too soon. Part of me can’t help but think “Didn’t we get the origin story in 2002?” I worry about the saturation of the market.
That said, my money is on The Dark Knight Rises for this summer, and not just because it was filmed here.
Okay, that is a big part of it.
